CIPD, BTEC, HND, NVQ and ATHE assignment help

Criteria-based qualifications are pass or refer. There is no middle ground and no averaging up — which makes mapping every assessment criterion the whole job.

Qualifications we cover

How criteria-based grading works

Every one of these awards hands the assessor a grid. Down one side are the assessment criteria; across the other is a judgement on whether your submission evidences each one. The assessor is not forming an overall impression of quality — they are working down a list.

That has two consequences, and understanding both is worth more than any amount of writing advice. First, a beautifully argued submission that never addresses AC 2.3 gets referred. Second, and more encouraging: these qualifications are far more predictable than a degree. Find every criterion, evidence it, and you pass.

Where each award sits

QualificationLevelRoughly equivalent to
CIPD FoundationLevel 3A-level
CIPD AssociateLevel 5Second year of a degree / HND
CIPD AdvancedLevel 7Master’s
HNCLevel 4First year of a degree
HNDLevel 5Second year of a degree
NVQ DiplomaLevels 2–5Occupational competence, not academic level
ATHE Extended DiplomaLevels 3–7Varies — Level 7 is postgraduate

The step that catches people out is Level 5 to Level 6 or 7. If you come from a vocational Level 5 route into ATHE Level 7 or CIPD Advanced, the jump is bigger than you expect. Suddenly you need real critical evaluation and proper academic referencing. That is the transition we are asked to help with most.

Qualification support — your questions

Why are these different from a university degree?

Degrees are marked on a percentage scale, so being strong in one area can make up for being weak in another. CIPD, BTEC, HND and NVQ do not work like that. Each assessment criterion is either evidenced or it is not. Miss one, and the whole unit is referred, however good the rest of it is.

What should I send you?

We need the assignment brief and the assessment criteria. Centres write their own briefs against the awarding body's specification, so your brief is what we work from. If you have been referred, the assessor feedback is the most useful document you can send us.

How fast can a referral be turned around?

24 to 48 hours for most units. Resubmission windows are short — Pearson normally allows fifteen working days — so we prioritise referral work.

Do you guarantee a pass?

No legitimate provider can guarantee an assessor’s decision. What we do guarantee is that if a unit we supported is referred, we rewrite it free of charge against the assessor’s feedback.
