Three levels — pick the one that matches your problem

Editing levels, what each includes and who it is for

ProofreadSpelling, grammar, punctuation, typos, consistency of style and formattingfrom £0.02Work you are happy with that needs a final clean
Copy-editEverything above plus sentence rewriting, word choice, repetition, academic register and paragraph flowfrom £0.035Work where the argument is sound but the writing gets in its way
Structural editEverything above plus reordered sections, strengthened topic sentences, signposting, and a rubric-based reportfrom £0.055Work that feels disorganised, or that came back with structural feedback

What we check that spellcheckers cannot

  • Argument continuity — whether the conclusion actually follows from the body, and whether the introduction promises something the essay never delivers.
  • Citation integrity — every in-text citation present in the reference list and vice versa. This is the single most common source of avoidable lost marks and software does not catch it.
  • Register — hedged academic phrasing where a claim is not fully evidenced, and contractions, colloquialisms and unmarked first person removed where the discipline requires it.
  • British English consistency — analyse not analyze, organisation not organization, programme not program except in computing, and -ise endings applied consistently.
  • Formatting against your handbook — margins, line spacing, heading hierarchy, table and figure numbering, appendix labelling and word count compliance.
  • Terminology consistency — one term for one concept throughout, which markers notice more than students expect.

Staying inside your university’s proofreading policy

Most UK universities publish a proofreading policy, and most allow third-party proofreading. The condition is that the editor does not change the substance of your argument or add new content. Some programmes restrict it further, especially where written English is itself being assessed.

Our default is the compliant one. We correct and suggest; we do not insert new arguments, new sources or new analysis. Every change arrives as a tracked change you actively accept, so the final submission remains your work and your decisions.

What you get back

  1. Your document with tracked changes, so nothing is altered without your say-so.
  2. A clean copy with all changes applied, for when you simply want to read it.
  3. An editor’s report — the recurring issues, ranked, so the next piece you write is better.
  4. A predicted band against your rubric, where you have supplied one, with the three specific changes that would most improve it.

Proofreading & editing — your questions

How much does proofreading cost?

Half price on your first order takes an 8,000-word dissertation proofread from £100 down to £60, and a short document to £15. Copy-editing and structural editing cost more because they take considerably longer, and there is no minimum order.

Will you change my writing style?

No. We correct errors and improve clarity while keeping your voice. That matters practically as well as ethically: work that suddenly reads like a different person is exactly what triggers an academic misconduct query.

Can you proofread a 15,000-word dissertation in 24 hours?

Yes, by splitting it across a small team with a lead editor who does a consistency pass at the end. Forty-eight hours produces a better result if you have it.

Is using a proofreader allowed?

At most UK universities, yes, provided the editor does not change the substance of your work — which is precisely the boundary we work within. Check your own handbook, since a minority of programmes restrict it.
